The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C; the latest smartphones announced by Apple on 10 September 2013 (11 September 2013 in Malaysian side of the world), and they are expected to be available in Malaysia either November or December 2013.
The iPhone 5S is essentially an updated version of the Apple iPhone 5 launched in September 2012 featuring the same shell as that model, though of course with different features and improved tech specs. The iPhone 5S comes with these key new features:
- iOS7 including enhanced multitasking, Control Center and iTunes Radio
- 4-inch Retina display (326ppi)
- 64-bit A7 chip
- Fingerprint sensor built into the home button (Touch ID)
- 8-megapixel resolution and an updated True Tone flash
- comes in 3 colors (White, Champagne Gold and “Space Gray”)
The iPhone 5C (C probably for “color”) was introduced to replace the iPhone 5 model completely as the cheaper option to the iPhone 5S, and the iPhone 4S is now the cheapest ‘new’ phone you can get from Apple for RM1,499.
The main difference of the iPhone 5C to the older (and now discontinued) iPhone 5 is in the construction, where the matt aluminium finish of the iPhone 5 has now made way to the coloured “polycarbonate” plastic in the iPhone 5C.
The specs of the iPhone 5C are virtually identical to the old iPhone 5, with the following features:
- 4-inch Retina display
- A6 chip
- comes in 5 colours (White, Pink, Yellow, Blue, Green)
When will the iPhone 5S & 5C be available in Malaysia?
If past releases are anything to go by, we can expect Malaysian networks to offer the phone sometime in November/December 2013.
Anyway the first batch of countries that get them on 20 September 2013:
- Puerto Rico
- Hong Kong
No actual date yet on when Malaysia is getting the devices, but Apple has promised availability to over 100 countries (safe to presume), includes Malaysia) by December 2013.
Prices in Malaysia?
No idea yet! But the last 3 iPhone models released in Malaysia, 16GB version to come in at RM2,199 RRP, with the 32GB and 64GB versions coming in at RM2,499 and RM2,799 respectively. Well the iPhone 5S looks to be priced slightly higher than the previous launch price of the iPhone 5. Well all we can do is….wait! 🙂
