If you slip five quick sets of basic jumping jacks into your day, you’ll burn 100 calories in just 10 minutes! One set = 100 jacks, which takes about 2 minutes. Five 2-minute sets (500 jacks total) will take about 10 minutes.

Here’s how to do them at any level:

BASIC JUMPING JACKS are done by standing with feet together, arms at your sides. Jump while raising your arms overhead so that your hands meet. At the same time, straddle-jump your feet apart. Bring your arms back down to your sides as you jump your feet back together.

JUICED UP JACKS add the resistance of your own body weight to build muscle while burning calories. Begin like a basic jack, but scissor-jump your legs and arms across one another after straddle-jumping (right leg and arm in front of the left before alternating to the other side). As you become comfortable with your form, pick up speed and add a deep bend or squat to the straddle-jump.

GENTLE JACKS are the perfect low-impact variation for those who have joint issues or injuries. Instead of jumping your legs apart and together, keep one foot stationary while the other foot steps out to the side into straddle position and back. You can complete one set on this side before alternating to the next foot for a second set.
